Speaking to ESPN Brazil (h/t Sky Sports), Liverpool winger Sadio Mane defended his teammate Roberto Firmino, who he thinks deserves as much credit as the club’s star wingers.
Liverpool’s front three are world-famous. The trio of Firmino, Mane, and Mohamed Salah has terrorized defences in England and across Europe.
But things aren’t quite clicking yet. While Salah is leading the race for the golden boot, the other two are behind the pace.
Mane has 11 goals in 32 appearances this season, which is 5 less than what he had at this stage last year. But it is the Brazilian No.9’s form in front of goal that is more worrying.
The 29-year-old has scored just once in the last 11 Premier League matches. But the club’s Senegalese superstar thinks that people are harsh to judge Firmino only on the basis of his goals. (h/t transfermarkt
)Mane highlights that he and Liverpool’s Egyptian king would not score as much as they do without their Brazilian teammate. He even goes on to call him his favourite teammate and wishes he could play for Senegal!
“He deserves more credit than me and Mo, for sure….without Bobby, I don’t see me and Mo score as many goals as we have, to be honest. He makes everything easier for us. Brazil are just lucky to have Firmino. I just love him. I think he is my favourite team-mate.”
Mane even mentioned how he wishes the Brazilian could switch allegiances and play for Senegal on the international stage. (h/t Sky Sports)
Liverpool are winless in 6 home games in the league now, a run that has seen us get kicked out of the title race.
It is important now that the club’s front three starts firing and they will have a chance to do that this Sunday when they take on Sheffield United.
