Liverpool told to sell Mohamed Salah if he wants to leave as transfer links to Real Madrid and Barcelona continue
Writing for Mirror (h/t Daily Mail), Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler noted that the club should cash in on Mohamed Salah if he wants a transfer move, just as they did when Philippe Coutinho wanted to leave.
The Egyptian King has been a revelation at Liverpool since joining from AS Roma in the summer of 2017. He has been one of the best silver linings for the club this season as the rot for the Reds continues to worsen.
The 28-year-old already has 24 goals in all competitions this season. And thus, it is no surprise that the superstar is linked with a move to Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.
And Fowler believes that Liverpool should let Salah leave if he wants to, and cash in on the opportunity.
“If he [Salah] wants to go, then he should go. If a player wants to leave, we have to accept it’s in the mix.”
Time to sell?
Fowler compared the situation to that of Coutinho, who made it clear to the club that he wanted to leave. The Reds sold the wantaway midfielder for £105million.
“Klopp didn’t want Coutinho because he thought his attitude wasn’t right, and he didn’t want that poison in his camp in the end. So if Salah is truly unhappy… then cash in, get as much as you can for him and use the money to make tweaks with the current team.”
The former Reds striker is right in his belief that ‘if a player wants to leave, then they should be going’. And while it should apply to Salah, the club should definitely try whatever they can to keep him at the club.
