Transfer News: Liverpool looking at Patson Daka of RB Salzburg as Haaland and Mbappe alternative
A report by Star (h/t Mirror) mentions that Liverpool are in the hunt for RB Salzburg striker, Patson Daka, as they seek a cheaper alternative to the other stars they have been linked with.
Liverpool’s name has been mentioned in relation to Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe. The Bundesliga starlet is on the radar of a lot of top European clubs and Manchester United are willing to spend around £130million for him.
Mbappe’s contract issue at PSG means that the club can slash his price tag to between £102-£108million. That is still a big amount though.
And with regards to this, the report states that Liverpool are eyeing Salzburg’s Zambian sensation. Daka has 23 goals in his 19 appearances for the Austrian side so far this season. This includes a quickfire 11-minute hat-trick against Sturm Graz in his most recent outing.
Pat on the back
What could also appeal to Liverpool is the £17million price tag that is being quoted for the 22-year-old.
The Reds are also no strangers to RB Salzburg as three of our current players plied their trade for the Austrian club before arriving at Anfield. Naby Keita, Takumi Minamino and Sadio Mane all played for Salzburg before they moved to Anfield.
Roberto Firmino might be the team’s system but his goal-scoring output can cost the team at times. And with the only other striker on the bench being Divock Origi, it makes sense to sign Daka and competition up front for the 30-year-old Brazilian.
But it remains to be seen if Liverpool actually go for the move. And if they do, they can expect competition from other clubs as well.
