Liverpool superstar fears the worst as links with Real Madrid continue to do the rounds

Transfer News: Mohamed Salah concerned with contract situation at Liverpool as Real Madrid links continue

A report by The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Metro] mentions that Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah is concerned that the club could sell him in the summer transfer window as he continues to be linked with Real Madrid.

The Egyptian is undoubtedly a superstar at Liverpool. He is on course to finish his 4th straight season as the club’s top scorer, with 28 goals in all competitions so far this season.

And the report mentions that Salah believes his performances in the last few years warrant a contract extension. Salah joined the Reds in 2017 and signed a renewal in 2018 on better terms, which made him one of the top earners at the club.

His current deal expires in the summer of 2023. And the club feels that the Egyptian international does not warrant a new contract on record wages considering he is 29 years old and because they feel he is already paid plenty. (h/t Metro)

End of the road?

In a recent interview, he even expressed

his desire to go out and play in La Liga one day. And Real Madrid are one club he has been linked with this season.

“I hope I can play soccer for many, many years. Why not? Nobody knows what will happen in the future, so … Maybe one day.”

Mohamed Salah of Liverpool is a transfer target for Real Madrid amid contract tensions at Anfield.

The Reds value the former AS Roma winger upwards of £100million. But it remains to be seen if the La Liga giants can sanction such a massive outlay during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Salah was underwhelming in the second-leg draw to Madrid on Wednesday. He missed the team’s best chances and potentially cost the team a place in the semi-finals.

More Liverpool News:

While he was not the only player who had a bad game, matches like those prove that maybe life after him would not be as bleak as many make it to be, especially if the team can replace him with a world-class name.
