Transfer News: Liverpool latest name to be linked with Wolfsburg attacker Josip Brekalo

A report by Italian outlet Calcio Mercato via Boot Room (h/t Mirror) states that Liverpool are one of the teams interested in signing highly-rated winger, Josip Brekalo.

The VfL Wolfsburg has enjoyed a good season in the Bundesliga, which has seen him get 4 goals and 3 assists in 27 league appearances so far. And the youngster’s rise has attracted the interest of lots of clubs. (Stats Credit: transfermarkt)

Liverpool are not the only English team after the 22-year-old’s signature. Arsenal are also pursuing a move for the attacker, who is comfortable playing on either wing.

The report goes on to add that La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid, and Serie sides AS Roma and AC Milan are also interested.

Brekalo to the Premier League?

Brekalo is a product of the Dinamo Zagreb youth academy and joined the German side in 2016. He was even handed his International debut for Croatia all the way back in 2018 against Spain in the UEFA Nations League.

Since then, he has made 22 appearances for the senior side, scoring 4 goals in that time. He is not a bad option at all for Liverpool to pursue.

Mohamed Salah continues to remain coy about his Liverpool future while Sadio Mane is not in his best form right now. Diogo Jota is a winger by trade, but his best work seems to come when playing centrally.

In that case, a young winger like Brekalo can tick a lot of boxes. Jurgen Klopp will have a natural winger to challenge for starts while the club might reap more rewards if the youngster reaches new heights in the coming years.

But it remains to be seen if Liverpool formalize their interest in Brekalo. With other clubs also interested in him, those that may fit him straight into their starting XI; the Reds would know that this may not be the easiest deal to secure in the world.
