Transfer News: Liverpool linked with a transfer for Sevilla goalkeeper Alfonso Pastor but face competition

According to Spanish outlet AS via HITC (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are eyeing a transfer for Sevilla goalkeeper, Alfonso Pastor, in the summer.

The 20-year-old Andalusian keeper is in the final few weeks of his contract. And the Reds want to seal a free transfer for him in the summer window.

Adrian’s contract also expires in the summer and Jurgen Klopp would want to bring in a solid backup to Alisson Becker. And Sevilla’s Pastor could be just that. (h/t Liverpool Echo)

At 20, his skills and abilities could be further honed at Liverpool and his best years would still be ahead of him. The youngster has next to no first-team experience, however.

Reds face competition from Barcelona, Madrid

His only senior start came against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League earlier this season where Olivier Giroud scored 4 past him to hand the West Londoners a 4-0 win.

Nevertheless, the report mentions that he has impressed at the youth level. However, the Reds are told to expect stiff competition from Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

The three Spanish clubs have been linked with Pastor. As far as Liverpool are concerned, Pastor would surely not be No.1 at least for the next few years.

Alisson is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and it would be mighty hard to displace him. However, Pastor would make for a great second choice.

Caomhin Kelleher is good, but never oozes confidence between the sticks. It remains to be seen if the Reds actually target Pastor once the window opens – and if he’s available as a free agent, then this deal should be a no-brainer.
