Transfer News: Liverpool set to miss out on Florian Neuhaus

According to transfer news from German publication BILD (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are set to miss out on the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus in the summer window.

Neuhaus has steadily grown into one of the top central midfielders in the Bundesliga in recent seasons and had emerged as a transfer target for Liverpool ahead of the upcoming window due to the impending departure of Georginio Wijnaldum.

Wijnaldum is in the final few weeks of his current contract with Liverpool and will not be renewing. A move to La Liga giants Barcelona is said to be imminent for the Netherlands international. His departure would leave a huge void in the midfield department at Anfield.

With James Milner not getting any younger, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain battling his injury woes and Naby Keita also being linked with an exit, a new central midfielder becomes a necessary addition for Liverpool before the next season kicks off.

Neuhaus, to that end, would have been a fine addition for Liverpool. The 24-year-old enjoyed an impressive 2020/21 campaign with Gladbach, producing an impressive tally of eight goals and eight assists each from 45 games across all competitions. (h/t Transfermarkt)

However, it is now being claimed that Liverpool will not be able to secure the transfer of Neuhaus this summer. This is because the German international has agreed on a deal to sign for Bundesliga record champions Bayern Munich in a deal worth €40m next year.

More Liverpool News:

It is not new for Bayern Munich to swoop in and sign up the best talents in Bundesliga year after year. And, it seems like they are set to repeat the trick with Neuhaus as well, who will be staying at Gladbach this year before jumping ship to the Allianz Arena in 2022.

As for Liverpool, the club must now look at alternate targets to bolster the midfield unit.
