Six Liverpool stars, including Salah, set for new contract negotiations
According to the Echo (h/t Daily Star), as many as six Liverpool first-team stars are set to enter talks with the club over new contracts in the upcoming summer.
The 2020/21 campaign was a difficult one for Liverpool, what with the club failing to defend the Premier League crown while just about making it into the top four. Plans are already underway for the new season, as Jurgen Klopp & co. look to bounce back strongly.
The early signing of Ibrahima Konate has set the tone for the summer transfer window for the Reds. And while there will be focus on incoming players, the Merseyside giants will do well to tie down the current crop of players to new deals and avoid a situation similar to that of Georginio Wijnaldum.
Indeed, the Dutchman is in the final month of his contract with Liverpool and is headed for an exit on a free transfer. So, it is only natural for the club to try and tie down other key players to new and improved deals. To that end, the Reds are now planning to enter contract negotiations with as many as six first-team stars.
The said players, who will be set for new deals, include star man Mohamed Salah, who was one of the brightest performers for Liverpool in the season gone by. In addition, key defender Virgil van Dijk, who missed the large chunk of the season with injury, is also set to be rewarded with a new deal.
The full-back duo of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andrew Robertson, along with the Brazilian pair of Fabinho and Alisson Becker are also in line for new contracts. (h/t Daily Star)
