Adrian ready to stay back at Liverpool as a backup for Alisson
According to Daily Mail, Adrian has expressed his desire to remain at Liverpool as a backup for Alisson. Real Betis have shown interest in signing the Spaniard but with Caomhin Kelleher set to go out on loan, Adrian has opted to stay back as the second choice.
The 34-year-old was signed for free in 2019 and replaced Simon Mignolet as Alisson Becker’s understudy. An injury to the Brazilian ace thrust Adrian into the starting line-up for a few games. He made a dream debut in Europe as Liverpool lifted the UEFA Super Cup after defeating Chelsea on penalties.
Even this season, Alisson was injured in the opening few games and Adrian was called into action. However, his shaky displays in goal hurt Liverpool as they dropped points early in the season. His consistent errors resulted in Caoimhin Kelleher displacing him as the second choice.
Nonetheless, Adrian is expected to stay back at the club and sign a contract extension. Real Betis were interested in signing him but he has opted to remain at Anfield as a backup to Alisson. It does help in the sense that Kelleher is set to go out on loan which would have left the goalkeeping department a bit light.
