Transfer News: Divock Origi set to depart Liverpool as Yves Bissouma is eyed

According to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (h/t The Express), Divock Origi is ‘willing to depart’ Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

The report goes on to say that Liverpool are planning to use Origi as a way of raising funds for an ‘expensive summer’. Origi was not favoured by Jurgen Klopp last season as he only made two Premier League starts.

He joined Liverpool all the way back in 2014 but was loaned back to LOSC Lille Metropole immediately. Ever since then, Origi has struggled to establish himself as the undisputed No.9 at the club.

And it now seems that his time at Anfield is coming to an end. He memorably scored the 2nd goal in Liverpool’s 2019 UEFA Champions League win against Tottenham Hotspur.

Adios, Origi

Origi was immediately offered a new ‘long-term’ contract which he accepted. But since then, he has failed to make an impression on the German gaffer.

As Liverpool look to increase transfer funds for the summer ahead, they are linked with a move for Yves Bissouma. The Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder is touted as a replacement for the outgoing Georginio Wijnaldum.

The news of Origi departing would not come as a shock to many as he was not able to make his mark on the Liverpool XI. It seems wise of the club to try and sell him while they can make some money from the transfer and invest it elsewhere.

However, it would leave Liverpool a little short on depth in the striker department. One injury to Roberto Firmino next season could mean the Reds struggling in that area of the pitch.

That is one aspect that should be considered by the club before sanctioning a sale for Origi. Fans would certainly not be opposed to a new signing up front in the summer.
