Transfer News: Watford eye Harvey Elliott loan move from Liverpool
According to a report by Daily Star, Watford are eyeing up a loan move for Liverpool winger, Harvey Elliott. The Hornets have won promotion to the Premier League after finishing runners-up in the Championship this season.
And they are eyeing Elliott as a way of strengthening their frontline. The 18-year-old was loaned out to Blackburn Rovers this past season where he heavily impressed with 7 goals and 11 assists over the course of the season.
The Englishman will return to Liverpool for pre-season but Jurgen Klopp is yet to decide on what to do with him. The Reds have two options – one, where he gains important experience in the Premier League by going out on loan, and second, keeping him for the next season. (h/t Daily Star)
The highly-rated Liverpool wonderkid was praised earlier this season by Stewart Downing. The ex-Red, who was also his teammate at Blackburn, said in an interview with Goal (h/t Daily Star):
“From what I’ve seen up to now, he’s going to be in the Premier League for sure… It’s his game-understanding, when to pass the ball, when to dribble, when to come inside, when to stay wide. For someone so young, it’s top-drawer.”
Elliott to go out?
Elliott arrived at Liverpool from Fulham in 2019, a club where he became their youngest player ever to play in the Premier League at 16 years and 30 days. Since then, he has also featured in 2 top-flight games for the Reds.
Both options – keeping or loaning out Elliott- have their advantages and demerits. While Elliott would get important playing time on a loan move, Liverpool, on the other hand, could be made to feel his absence next season.

With AFCON coming next year and Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah’s participation in the competition certain, the Reds could use backup wingers. And if they don’t sign any in this window, then Elliott could play an important role during that time.
