Jordan Henderson sends emotional message to fans after completing 10 years at Liverpool

9th July 2021 marks the 10th anniversary of Jordan Henderson signing for Liverpool from Sunderland in a move that cost around £16million. It has been a journey filled with highs as well as lows.

The lowest point would perhaps be the time when Henderson ‘cried’ after being offered to Fulham in exchange for Clint Dempsey in 2012.  That move, of course, did not materialize and Henderson stayed at Anfield. (h/t football.london

And speaking to LFCTV in an interview for Henderson: The Making of a Champion documentary, the captain explained how grateful he was to complete a decade at the club but admitted that things change quickly in football.

“I just hope there’s more to come in the future. No one ever knows what’s going to happen in the future. And I know in football things change very quickly and things have to come to an end as well. I’m just very grateful that I got to spend 10 years at least at this football club; and achieved the things that I’ve achieved”

Adding to that, the captain said

his thank you to fans and everyone who had supported him through his journey. The 30-year-old saw his season cut short with an injury this time around but has made the Euros 2020 squad for England.

“I’d have to thank everybody that’s supported us along the way: fans, players [and] staff have been incredible and I’ve been so lucky and fortunate to have worked with all of them, and they’ve given us my dreams back. All of them together have made my dreams come true and I can’t thank them enough, really.”

There is no doubting Henderson’s legacy at Liverpool. He certainly deserves to have his name taken in the same breath as Graeme Souness, Steven Gerrard, and Jamie Carragher now.

After all, it was Henderson who was the skipper when Liverpool ended their 30-year wait for the league title in 2020 and also when the Reds lifted the Champions League trophy in Madrid.
