Liverpool Transfer News: Southampton want permanent deal for Takumi Minamino
According to transfer news from Mirror, Southampton want a permanent deal for Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino. The Japanese international is scheduled to return to Anfield after his loan deal expired.
The 26-year-old struggled to make a big impression at Liverpool but that doesn’t have a lot to do with his footballing calibre. Minamino was hardly afforded enough game time to prove his mettle. A temporary switch to St. Mary’s opened an excellent window for him to live up to his potential in English football.
Minamino was made available for a loan move after struggling for game time at Anfield over the past 12 months. He started only four PL fixtures for the Reds following his arrival from RB Salzburg in a £7.25m deal back in January 2020.
With the season now over, Minamino is set to return to Liverpool. However, his prospects look bleak there, with the likes of Mane, Salah, Firmino and Jota occupying the forward line. Nonetheless, Southampton could again offer him a way out as they want a permanent deal for the Japanese.

It was clear in the first place that Minamino will find it tough to get any game time. At Southampton, he flourished and looked back to his best. It would be in the player’s best interests if Liverpool can agree to a sale of the talented forward over the summer.
