Transfer News: Fabio Vieira on Liverpool shortlist

According to transfer news from Daily Star, Liverpool have placed Porto starlet Fabio Vieira on their wishlist. The Portugal U-21 international was named player of the U-21 Euros recently and has a release clause of £30m.

A youth exponent of FC Porto, Fabio Vieira represented the club across various age groups and was a part of the squad that beat Chelsea in the final of the 2018-19 UEFA Youth League. He made his debut for Porto B in the Portuguese second-tier back in February 2019 before earning his competitive first-team breakthrough against Maritimo in the Primeira Liga.

However, it was last season that Vieira really showcased his potential. The 21-year-old did not have the best of starts to the season but wrapped it up well. His performances helped Portugal’s U-21 side to make it to the finals of the U-21 European Championship. He was also awarded the Player of the Tournament award.

Hence, it has been no surprise to see him being linked with Liverpool. Vieira is among the many midfielders being seen as a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum. He is said to be on Liverpool’s ‘reference list’.

Liverpool are still looking at players who could be viable replacements for Wijnaldum. Vieira is a much different player from the Dutchman but he is one that should be closely followed by the club. He has just capped off a great campaign and could go on to become a prominent name.
