Transfer News: Liverpool turn their attention to Pedri

According to transfer news from Daily Star, Liverpool have taken an interest in Barcelona starlet Pedri. The Reds see him as a viable replacement for the departing Georgionio Wijnaldum who is set to join PSG.

The Dutchman was Liverpool’s dependable man in the middle amidst an unprecedented injury crisis. While players were incurring fitness issues left and right, the 30-year-old managed to make 51 appearances for the Reds in all competitions. But he has now joined Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent. There is surely a void to fill when a regular starter like that leaves the club suddenly.

Pedri has taken Barcelona by storm over the last season. The young Spaniard was a bright spot in an otherwise dark season for the club. Capable of playing as a wide player, Pedri has been used to good effect in the midfield. He has shown maturity beyond his years and is now one of the best players in the side.

It’s not the first time Pedri has been linked with a move to Liverpool. There were talks between his agent and the club back in April. Nonetheless, the youngster is now back on Liverpool’s radar after a solid first season at Barca. He has been seen as someone who can be a replacement for Wijnaldum.

A deal for Pedri will not be easy. He has a £70m release clause. Moreover, Ronald Koeman wants to keep him at the club and the feeling is mutual for the player as well. Liverpool and Barcelona have done business in the past and it remains to be seen if Pedri will be another name in that list.
