Transfer News: Liverpool told Alexander Isak release clause as Chelsea, Arsenal share interest
According to a report in Spanish outlet AS (h/t The Express), Chelsea have entered the race for Liverpool transfer target, Alexander Isak.
The Swedish striker has made waves in Europe recently and is also subject to interest from Arsenal. But the Premier League clubs would have to fork out £60million to land him – which is his release clause.
The Real Sociedad striker scored 17 times in 34 La Liga games this season. That figure sounds even more impressive when his age is taken into context.
The 21-year-old striker left Borussia Dortmund to join the Spanish side in 2019, which has proved to be a good decision for his career. He is thriving in Spain and features for the Sweden national team as well.
Isak to Premier League?
He already has more than 20 senior caps to his name and started the all-important UEFA Euros 2020 group opener for the Swedes against Spain. Liverpool’s interest in him makes sense for a number of reasons.
Firstly, he can be an instant competition for Roberto Firmino in the No.9 role. The Brazilian wasn’t at his best in terms of goals this season and Isak could compete for starts with him.
And secondly, he can be a long-term asset for Liverpool and make the No.9 position his own. But the road to signing him won’t be easy, it seems.
Apart from the heavy release clause, the Reds would have to fend off interest from the two London clubs. There will be a lot of matches next season, as was the case this time around.
