Transfer News: Liverpool plan to keep Kostas Tsimikas for next season
As per a report by Liverpool Echo, Liverpool have no intentions of selling Kostas Tsimikas in the summer transfer window.
The Greek left-back has been linked with an exit recently. A report by Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t The Express), as covered by TheKopTimes, mentioned that Napoli are eyeing a loan move for the 25-year-old.
But as per the report by Liverpool Echo, the Reds are impressed by what they have seen from Tsimikas in training, especially in the second half of the season.
The club did not hand him a lot of starts last season due to the injury crisis in the centre-back department. Jurgen Klopp did not rotate Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson much to avoid further disruptions to his backline. (h/t Liverpool Echo)
Tsimikas to stay at Anfield
And the club wants to keep him for next season when they believe he will feature more prominently. Tsimikas managed just 7 appearances last season, of which only two came in the Premier League.
He was signed from Olympiacos last summer for an £11.75m fee. This news comes as a boost to Reds fans who would have been worried about Liverpool’s depth in the left-back position if Tsimikas was to leave.
Robertson has been used like a bar of soap by Klopp and it would be wise to give him rest at times next season. There would be a number of opportunities to rotate the squad as well.
With Liverpool vying for trophies in four season-long tournaments, and not to mention the busy Christmas period in the Premier League, Tsimikas could have ample chances to impress Klopp.

For a player that won 4 league titles in Greece and was the Player of the Year there in 2020, it is not wise to write him off so quickly.
