Transfer News: Napoli after Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas
Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t The Express) states in a report that Napoli are eyeing up a loan transfer move for Liverpool left-back Kostas Tsimikas during this window.
The Greek defender joined Liverpool from Olympiacos last summer. He had won 4 league titles and was the player of the year in 2020.
But he is yet to get any proper minutes at Liverpool so far. With Andy Robertson being in fine form and Tsimikas himself undergoing fitness issues, he managed just 3 starts in all competitions for the Reds this season.
The Serie A side have a ‘restriction’ by their owner as they look for a replacement for Faouzi Ghoulam. The club have been told that they must sell before they can buy, which is why a loan for the 25-year-old left-back makes sense for them. (h/t The Express)
Should Tsimikas go to Napoli?
Tsimikas cost Liverpool £12million last summer but has failed to make a mark at Anfield. However, arranging loan move for Tsimikas does not make a lot of sense for Jurgen Klopp.
Robertson did not suffer a major injury this season. But any such issues next campaign can put Liverpool in a precarious position if Tsimikas is unavailable for selection too.
While James Milner has offered a temporary solution in that position in the past, his services could be needed in midfield. Moreover, it is always beneficial for a team if they have a natural left-back occupying that position on the pitch.

Only time will tell if Jurgen Klopp sanctions any such move knowing that Robertson would then be without natural backup. But from the player’s perspective, time away in Serie A could be a good opportunity to get starts and make an impression on his Liverpool boss.
