Transfer News: Liverpool target Sander Berge could be available for reduced fee in the summer

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool transfer target Sander Berge could be available for a cut-price fee in the summer window.

The Sheffield United midfielder is linked to the Reds despite being bought by the Blades just last year. A report by The Star nearly a month ago claimed that Sheffield United want £35million for their midfielder.

They bought him from KRC Genk in January 2020 for a £22million fee. But this season, the Norwegian could not help his team avoid the drop as they were relegated from the Premier League.

And now, it is claimed that he can cost as little as £10.3million. The report also mentions that Napoli are potential suitors and don’t want to go beyond €8million for the 23-year-old.

Sander Berge to Anfield?

Both those statements should come as good news for the Reds who should be on the lookout for a new midfielder this summer. According to Liverpool Echo, Georginio Wijnaldum is a PSG player after not renewing his Anfield deal.

That leaves a glaring void in the Reds midfield that would have to be filled one way or the other. A new midfielder would certainly bolster the squad depth and put fans’ mind at ease.

The injury crisis encountered by the Reds last season would still be haunting the supporters, who saw their team’s silverware hopes dashed. The squad was stretched to its bare bones.

Young Curtis Jones has the potential to develop and take over that spot in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield three, but it is not wise to throw him into the deep end so early on in his career.

For now, the trio of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, and Thiago Alcantara would suffice but Klopp should make sure that he has a plan in place to give his midfielders some rest when needed.
