Liverpool receive a second bid for Liam Millar from FC Basel

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke on Twitter, Switzerland-based club FC Basel have made a second offer to secure the transfer of Liverpool forward Liam Millar.

The 21-year-old Millar started out at the academy of Fulham before moving to Liverpool’s youth setup in 2016. He impressed with the club’s Under-18 side, scoring 17 goals and setting up eight more before earning a bump up to the Under-23s, for whom he has scored nine goals and assisted six in 38 games. Millar made his first-team debut for Liverpool in February last year in the 1-0 FA Cup win over Shrewsbury Town, which remains his solitary appearance till date.

The 21-year-old has had two loan stints away from Liverpool, first with Kilmarnock in 2019 and more recently with Charlton Athletic, where he spent the second half of the 2020/21 season. During his time with the Addicks, Millar featured 27 times, making a handy contribution of three goals and six assists.

And, it now seems like the 21-year-old could be set to leave Liverpool for good, with FC Basel firming up their interest in him. Indeed, the Swiss giants are now claimed to have made a second offer for the 21-year-old forward, who has made 11 appearances for the Canadian national team.

A similar claim was made by the Liverpool Echo this past weekend, wherein it was stated that Basel had made a seven-figure bid for Millar, which the Reds were ready to accept. So, all things point towards an exit for the 21-year-old talent, with Switzerland seeming to be his next destination.
