Transfer News: Harvey Barnes has admirers at Liverpool

According to a report by Goal (h/t Leicestershire Live), Harvey Barnes of Leicester City has big admirers at Liverpool but a deal may not be possible due to one potential hurdle.

The report mentions that the Reds want to make two more signings – a midfielder and a forward. In this regard, Youri Tielemans of Leicester is linked as a potential replacement for the departed Georginio Wijnaldum.

The 30-year-old Dutchman is off to PSG after not renewing his deal at Anfield. Apart from that, Barnes is also said to have ‘big admirers’ at Liverpool. (h/t Leicestershire Live)

The left-midfielder was also linked to the Reds earlier this year. However, the report goes on to say that the kind of fee such a transfer would command “would rule him out of contention, this summer at least.”

Liverpool should sign a forward

Liverpool can use some wingers to compete with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. The duo is one of the deadliest pairings in the country, but they can’t play forever at Anfield.

Barnes, at just 23 years of age, could be a viable long-term replacement for either one of them- especially the Senegalese forward, who plays down the left-hand side.

Jurgen Klopp should have a plan in place for when Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah leave for AFCON.

But if the transfer fee is going to be a problem, then it is wise for the Reds to back out for now. The focus, as many fans would feel, should lie in the midfield area.

However, an attacker would certainly benefit the Reds going into the next season, especially considering the situation surrounding their two first-team wingers. If Barnes does not serve as a feasible option, then the Reds should look elsewhere.

Mane and Salah are both scheduled to leave for AFCON 2022 that starts in January. In light of this, Jurgen Klopp should plan how the Reds would deal with that situation – and if a winger is required this summer.
