Transfer News: Renato Sanches subject of interest from Liverpool and Arsenal
According to French outlet Onze Mondial (h/t The Mirror), Liverpool are ‘particularly’ interested in securing the services of Renato Sanches during this transfer window.
The Portuguese midfielder is just 23 years old but has been a household name for a while. He gained fame as a teenager at SL Benfica which earned him a big move to Bayern Munich.
But the midfielder failed to cement his position in their starting XI and had an equally underwhelming time at Swansea during his loan spell. Nevertheless, he has managed to turn things around again.
He has had an impressive two years at Lille, helping them to a Ligue 1 title this season under the guidance of Christophe Galtier. Sanches carried that form to the Euros with Portugal, where he was impressive alongside Liverpool’s Diogo Jota despite Portugal’s early elimination.
LFC want Renato Sanches
And now, he has caught the attention of the Premier League big boys, with the report also citing interest from Arsenal. Liverpool’s interest in Portugal international makes sense.
Georginio Wijnaldum, an ever-present in Jurgen Klopp’s line-up at Liverpool, did not renew his Anfield contract. The 30-year-old Holland captain will be at PSG next season, leaving a big void in Liverpool’s midfield.
Sanches, who has two years remaining on his contract at Lille, would be a wise acquisition by Michael Edwards and co. At 23, he still has room to develop and get better while also boasting of enough experience to warrant a place in the starting XI straight away.

But for that, the club would have to formalize any potential interest that they have in him. Things will be clearer as time passes but this seems like a transfer to keep an eye on for both the club and the fans, especially considering Arsenal’s interest.
