Transfer News: Liam Millar leaves Liverpool for FC Basel
As confirmed by The Athletic, Liverpool forward Liam Millar has parted ways with the club, signing for Switzerland outfit FC Basel in a deal worth £1.3m.
The 21-year-old Millar started out at the academy of Fulham before moving to Liverpool’s youth setup in 2016. He impressed with the club’s Under-18 side, scoring 17 goals and setting up eight more before earning a bump up to the Under-23s, for whom he has scored nine goals and assisted six in 38 games. The 21-year-old had two loan stints away from Liverpool, first with Kilmarnock in 2019 and more recently with Charlton Athletic, where he spent the second half of the 2020/21 season. During his time with the Addicks, Millar featured 27 times, making a handy contribution of three goals and six assists.
Millar made his first-team debut for Liverpool in February last year in the 1-0 FA Cup win over Shrewsbury Town, which as it turns out, would be his only senior appearance for the club, as he has now left the Merseyside outfit to seal a permanent transfer to FC Basel.
The Swiss outfit, once home to Liverpool stars Mohamed Salah and Xherdan Shaqiri, have snapped up the young Canadian forward in a deal worth £1.3m the report claims. Millar was being courted by a host of other clubs like New York Red Bulls, Blackpool, Odense as well as Charlton Athletic. But, he has signed for the Swiss giants.

The report further adds that Liverpool have also inserted a 20% future sell-on clause, should Millar go on to make it big at Basel and be sold for a huge profit.
