Transfer News: Inter Milan trying to fend off Liverpool from signing Nicolo Barella
According to transfer news from Mirror, Inter Milan are trying to fend off Liverpool from Nicolo Barella. The Reds have shown interest in the Italian star but Inter want to keep their prized asset by anding him a new contract. That is despite his current deal still running for three more years.
A youth product of Cagliari, he started out for them in 2006 and spent his whole youth career at their academy. Inter Milan signed him on an initial loan deal in 2019, which was made permanent in the following season. He has enjoyed a good spell at Inter so far, with 87 appearances to date, scoring 7 goals and assisting 21 (h/t Transfermarkt).
Barella was among some of the names that were central to Inter Milan’s long-awaited Serie A triumph. He has carried his form into the Euros as well, starring for Italy as they will now play England in the final. The 24-year-old provided a masterclass against Belgium in the quarterfinals with a peach of a goal.
Hence, it is not surprising to see Liverpool register their interest in the Italian star. However, Inter are not willing to lose any more of their star players after the sale of Achraf Hakimi. To keep off Liverpool, they are planning to offer Barella a new contract despite three more years remaining on his current deal.

Now that Gini Wijnaldum has left the club, it would make sense to go after a new player. While the Reds do have ample midfielders, not a lot of them can be deemed great. Barella is a player whose stocks are rising and Liverpool would do well to snap him before Inter bind him to a new deal.
