According to The Daily Mail, Celtic are interested in signing Liverpool defender Ben Davies as they look to sign players before their Champions League qualifier against FC Midtjylland on July 20.
Davies was signed by the Reds earlier this year in the winter window. The Reds paid a £2million transfer fee to Preston North End for the 25-year-old as they looked to deal with an unprecedented injury crisis in their backline.
But things have not worked out at all for the Englishman. He is yet to appear in a single game for Jurgen Klopp’s side, and Celtic are seemingly back in the market for him.
The Scottish behemoths were also interested in Davies back in January before he joined the Reds. This time, they are keen on a season-long loan deal for him. (h/t The Daily Mail)
They are not the only club after the out of favour defender as a number of English sides, including Bournemouth, are also after his services. As for the Reds, they would prefer to sell for a hefty profit, but a loan deal also seems like an option. (h/t The Daily Mail
)With Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate, and Joel Matip all set to vie for starts in the defence next season, Davies would only fall further down the pecking order.
A loan deal would help him get minutes because he would surely struggle for that at Liverpool, as evident from last season.
It remains to be seen which team he joins but regardless of that, he is not a player whose absence will set the club back by a big margin.
