Transfer News: Jurgen Klopp blocks Philippe Coutinho return to Liverpool
As per a report by Spanish outlet Sport (h/t The Express), Jurgen Klopp has turned down the chance to sign Philippe Coutinho for Liverpool this summer.
Coutinho joined the Reds from Inter Milan in 2013 and went on to find his best form under Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. A controversial move to Barcelona in January 2018 followed, but it has not worked out for him at Camp Nou.
The Brazilian playmaker was even loaned out to Bayern Munich, but just like at Barcelona, he failed to hold down a regular starting spot for an extended period of time. And now, he could exit the Spanish side as they look to free their books for new signings.
Barcelona need to balance their books before they can register any new signings. Coutinho could be one of the stars that can make way but the Reds have decided not to make a move for the Brazilian playmaker on the behest of their German manager. (h/t The Express)
No Coutinho reunion
While his exit to Barcelona worried Liverpool fans when it occurred, the club reached a new level only after the £142million they received for him.
With new acquisitions such as Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker, the Reds went on to win the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, FIFA Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup – all without Coutinho.
But the void left by Georginio Wijnaldum cannot be ignored. The Dutchman will not be with the club next season as he joins PSG on a free transfer, leaving the gaffer a man short in midfield.

Coutinho could have been a viable option considering he is familiar with the club and Klopp’s style having played for him before but it seems the former Borussia Dortmund manager is not ready to give him a second chance.
