Liverpool dealt major blow in pursuit of Kalvin Phillips

Speaking to iNews (h/t Daily Star), the agent of Leeds United midfielder and Liverpool target Kalvin Phillips has ruled out the chances of a summer exit.

A product of the Leeds United youth academy, Phillips has grown into one of their most important players in recent seasons. The 25-year-old played a key role in the Whites earning promotion back to the Premier League in 2020.

Upon his arrival in the top-flight, Phillips enjoyed a stunning season, establishing himself as one of the best in his position in the division, while also breaking into the England national team. The Leeds star has been an ever-present figure at the Euros this summer as the Three Lions qualified for the finals.

Phillips’ rise in stature with club and country has seen him get linked with a move to top clubs including Liverpool this summer, as reported by the Echo. The Reds are in the market for reinforcements in the middle of the park following the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum.

However, it seems like a move for the England international may well be off the table as his agent has claimed that Phillips is happy to stay at Leeds. (h/t Daily Star)

“Kalvin is happy at Leeds and has no desire to move whatsoever. It’s more a case of ‘carry on what you’re doing for club and country’.”

Phillips, in a short time at the highest level, has demonstrated that he is ready to make the step up. However, it seems like Liverpool’s reported interest in the England international will not bear any fruit this summer, with the midfielder likely to continue with Leeds United.
