Transfer News: Liverpool in talks with Mino Raiola for Donyell Malen
According to Voetbal International journalist Marco Timmer (h/t Echo), Liverpool are in negotiations with super-agent Mino Raiola over the potential signing of PSV Eindhoven forward Donyell Malen.
Malen spent a major portion of his youth footballing years at the academy of Ajax, before making his way to England, signing for Arsenal in 2015. While he impressed for the club’s Under-18 and the reserve team, the Dutchman never got a look-in into the first-team and he signed for PSV in 2017.
Since returning to the Netherlands, Malen has developed into one of the best forwards on display in the Eredivisie, bagging 55 goals and 24 assists from 116 games. The 2020/21 term was the 22-year-old’s best season to date, as he amassed a tally of 27 goals and 10 assists from 45 games in all competitions. (h/t Transfemarkt)
Malen, who has also been capped 13 times by the Netherlands national team, has done enough to garner the attention of Liverpool while German giants Borussia Dortmund are also interested. And now, journalist Timmer has claimed that the Reds are in talks with his agent, Raiola, over a potential switch.
“Yes, of course, there are negotiations going on, and with that, it can also be counted on the negotiations that in this case, Mino Raiola is conducting with Dortmund or Liverpool, for example, for Malen and Inter and Everton for Dumfries, so he has been given that space. They are allowed to talk to other clubs, and then, at some point, it can go fast.”

It remains to be seen if Liverpool are successful in their pursuit of the 22-year-old Malen. If signed, the youngster can be a great asset for the Reds, considering Roberto Firmino’s diminishing returns and Divock Origi’s uncertain future. His ability to play in the wide areas as well would add more options at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal.
