Transfer News: Liverpool interested in Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann
According to The Express, Barcelona superstar Antoine Griezmann is linked with a host of Premier League clubs including Liverpool.
The 30-year-old forward is also on the radar of Manchester United and Chelsea. However, nothing concrete has materialized yet for the former Atletico Madrid superstar.
Griezmann signed for the Catalan club in the summer of 2019 on a 5-year deal with an astounding release clause of €800million (£683million). It is one of the biggest release clauses in football history and would be a near-impossible task for any club to meet.
But a report by The Daily Star last week would put his potential suitors’ minds to rest. It stated that amid the financial crisis at the club but the Frenchman could be available for a fraction of his buyout clause now.
Griezmann to Liverpool?
Griezmann is the kind of name that a club like Liverpool should be linked to. His experience in La Liga, European competitions and international football is immense and at 30, he isn’t a youngster that the club would need to be patient with in order to develop him into a first-team player.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner with France would most certainly warrant a starting spot at any club that he chooses to join. And that is the kind of competition Jurgen Klopp should seek for Roberto Firmino, as the Brazilian was not at his goal-scoring best last season.
Griezmann is also adept at playing on the wings and can cover multiple positions for the Reds. The big obstacle seems to be the interest from other Premier League teams.

His current wage at Barcelona, which stands at £294,000-a-week, is also pretty significant. But it remains to be seen if that would be a problem for the Reds if they were to formalize any interest in him.
