Transfer News: Liverpool make contact for Domenico Berardi move

As per a report by Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport via Paisley Gates (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool have made contact with the agent of Domenico Berardi for a possible move.

The Italian winger is linked with a move to Anfield and was impressive for Italy at the 2020 UEFA Euro. The 26-year-old was the star performer for Sassuolo in the latest Serie A season as well.

He racked up an immense tally of 17 goals and 8 assists in 30 league games – a stat that would impress any potential suitor. And the Reds have seemingly made the first move to sign him.

The report mentions that the Reds have told Berardi’s agent of their admiration for the former Juventus forward and their willingness to make an offer for the player.

Berardi signing inches closer

Liverpool Echo cites a source mentioning Sassuolo’s valuation of Berardi to be £43million. That seems like a hefty figure but this is a signing that Jurgen Klopp would benefit from.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane need competition down the wings. Diogo Jota’s versatility ensures that he can play anywhere across the front-line, but Berardi’s wing-play can offer another dynamic to bring off the bench or start in games.

Salah and Mane would be absent for a few weeks in early 2022 due to AFCON. That period in the season is crucial and if the Reds don’t have sufficient backup for the departing duo, then they could be left to rue their mistake.

More Liverpool News:

There is still a long time to go in the summer transfer window but this is surely on transfer to keep an eye on. If he does join, he would also become the first Italian to play for the Reds in 6 years since Mario Balotelli’s departure.
