Transfer News: West Ham United seeking around £35m for Liverpool target Jarrod Bowen

According to The Athletic (h/t The Express), West Ham United are seeking a price of around £35million from Liverpool for Jarrod Bowen.

The 24-year-old is the latest name to be linked with the Reds as Jurgen Klopp looks to reinforce his squad for the upcoming 2021/22 campaign. Bowen has thrived since moving to West Ham in 2020 and can still go up several notches in the right setting.

He has so far made 53 appearances for the Hammers, scoring nine goals and assisting 10. Bowen remains a key part of West Ham’s plans and David Moyes would loathe to part with him.

According to the report, the Hammers are not very keen on parting with the impressive winger. Whether Liverpool can tempt them to do so by offering the aforementioned amount remains to be seen.

The chances of the Reds making a move hinges on their ability to get rid of Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri. Both players appear to have reached the end of the road as far as their time at Anfield is concerned.

Liverpool recently parted ways with Marko Grujic and Taiwo Awoniyi. With the season set to kick off in about three weeks, the time is ripe for the Reds to bring in their targets for the summer.

In Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, Liverpool have one of the most fearsome attacking trios in world football. Add Diogo Jota to the mix and Jurgen Klopp is not short of options.

But as seen last season, the club could be handicapped if any of the four suffers a dip in form. It would not be amiss to suggest that Salah carried the attack on his back during the last campaign. Adding Bowen to the roster will give Klopp another option in attack when needed.

Signing Bowen will not just give Liverpool an excellent winger to call upon but also a player who satisfies the homegrown quota. Capable of playing anywhere along the frontline, the 24-year-old will thrive in Liverpool’s fluid frontline.

With the season drawing closer, it remains to be seen if the Reds will ramp up their efforts to land Bowen.
