Transfer News: Ben Davies closing in on Liverpool exit

According to transfer news from Football Insider (h/t Daily Star), Liverpool defender Ben Davies is closing in on an exit amid Sheffield United interest.

Davies arrived at Liverpool only a matter of six months ago, joining from Preston North End as an emergency signing following the Reds’ torrid luck with injuries in the centre-back department.

Davies came to Anfield alongside Ozan Kabak, but the 25-year-old failed to make a single appearance for Jurgen Klopp’s side as he endured his own injury troubles.

Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are all now back from their injuries while Ibrahima Konate has also arrived as a new signing from RB Leipzig. With the likes of Nat Phillips, Rhys Williams and Billy Koumetio all options at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal, Davies’ chances of making the cut look slim.

So, securing a transfer away from Anfield makes a lot of sense for both parties. And, there seems to be plenty of interest in Davies as well, with recently-relegated Premier League club Sheffield United keen on signing him as well. (h/t Daily Star)

Davies had travelled to Austria for the pre-season camp. But the defender has returned to England, as reported by Liverpool Echo, due to personal reasons and not related to any transfer activity.

Liverpool exploited a key clause in Celtic's offer to Ben Davies to ensure they trumped the Scots to the Championship star.

As things stand, Davies looks set to depart Liverpool without even playing a game for the Reds. That is no reflection of the player’s abilities, but just the circumstances of his move to Anfield. He will now look to kickstart his career back after the brief stagnation, potentially with Sheffield United.
