Transfer News: Liverpool set to offer contract for Franck Kessie

According to news from Sport Mediaset (h/t Mirror), Liverpool are ready to table a contract offer for AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie in the current transfer window.

Having burst onto the scenes at Atalanta BC, Kessie has been one of the best central defenders on display in Serie A over the past couple of years. The 24-year-old signed for AC Milan in 2017, on a two-year loan deal, which was made permanent in the summer of 2019.

During the four-year period, Kessie has 184 appearances for the Rossoneri, scoring 30 goals and setting up 15 more for his teammates to date. The midfielder was a permanent fixture in the middle of the park for Rossoneri in 2020/21, helping them to a spot in the UEFA Champions League for next season.

However, Kessie’s future at San Siro is a major doubt with his contract with AC Milan expiring next year. Discussions have been held over a new deal, but they haven’t proven fruitful as of yet, opening up a window of opportunity for clubs to sign the Ivory Coast international this summer.

And, Liverpool are one such team that are looking to make a move for Kessie this summer. The Reds are in the market for reinforcements in the middle of the park following the exit of Georginio Wijnaldum, who left for PSG on a free transfer.

Kessie, given his all-action style of play, would be an excellent acquisition for the Merseyside giants. To that end, Liverpool are now said to have even tabled a contract offer for the AC Milan superstar worth £7m-a-year.
