Liverpool hold talks with Ismaila Sarr over a summer move
According to 90min (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool have revitalized their interest in Ismaila Sarr this summer as the club are holding talks with the forward over a potential move.
The Reds signed Diogo Jota last season in a bid to add more depth to their attacking options and are keen to do the same again this summer by signing the Watford forward.
Ismaila Sarr was incredible for Watford last season as he helped them win the Championship by scoring 13 goals and racking up a further 10 assists in 39 league appearances, which led to the Hornets announcing the Senegalese as Watford’s Player of the Season.
Why do Liverpool need Ismaila Sarr?
Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane were only able to contribute a combined 20 Premier League goals last season, while Mo Salah scored 22 goals by himself. Thus, Liverpool relied a fair bit on Salah last season, and Jurgen Klopp might want his other forwards to chip in equally this term.
Diogo Jota, who the club signed last summer to add some attacking depth, was injured for quite a while last season, courtesy of which the Reds might have to add more options to the frontline.
Additionally, Xherdan Shaqiri could also leave Anfield this summer, which in turn would leave a vacant role in the squad for a forward player. This could be filled by Ismaila Sarr, who was close to joining the Anfield outfit last summer.
The Reds have been linked with Donyell Malen, Jarrod Bowen, Domenico Berardi, and Federico Chiesa this summer but are yet to make a move for a forward.
Jurgen Klopp and team are currently in Austria for their pre-season, with their last game being a 1-0 win over German outfit Stuttgart as the Reds look to gear up for the new season.
