Transfer News: Liverpool join Arsenal, Chelsea in Martin Odegaard race

According to transfer news from Fichajes (h/t Football.london), Liverpool have entered the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Martin Odegaard, who is also a target for Arsenal and Chelsea.

Odegaard has been with Real Madrid for over six years now, having arrived as a prodigious teenager from Norwegian club Stromsgodset. Having spent the first few seasons with the club’s Castilla outfit, the 22-year-old has been farmed out on loan consistently by Los Blancos

After temporary spells in Netherlands and Spain, Odegaard landed in England in January earlier this year, signing for Arsenal in the winter window. And in his short six-month stay, the Norwegian international made a solid impression, finishing with two goals and two assists in 20 games before returning to Madrid.

Now back in Spain, Odegaard is considering his future, with Arsenal one of the clubs keen on signing him. Joining them now, as per the report, are Liverpool and Chelsea.

Liverpool are in the market for a new midfielder following the departure of Georginion Wijnaldum. And while Odegaard isn’t exactly of the same profile, the Norwegian would provide something different to this Reds’ side, perhaps even enabling Jurgen Klopp to switch to a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Odegaard, however, is valued at £42.5m by Real Madrid – a sum that Liverpool may be reluctant to shell out unless they are able to get some of their unwanted players off the books at the earliest.

After signing Ibrahima Konate, things have gone quiet for the Reds on the transfer front this summer. With their rivals making big moves, Klopp & co. will need to step up soon or risk losing behind.
