Liverpool set to profit millions from Ings deal

Liverpool Echo have reported an interesting financial boost for Jurgen Klopp. According to the report, Liverpool are set to receive a part of the fee from Danny Ings transfer to Aston Villa. The move was announced yesterday.

The 29-year-old will move to Villa Park for £30million.

Danny Ings will join Aston Villa

The Englishman left Liverpool in 2018. The club negotiated a 20% sell-on clause in the deal. However, the clause would apply to any fee above the region of £20m. Hence, Liverpool are likely to receive anything around £2m.

The fee could seem peanuts compared to today’s market. Nevertheless, it is still a pat on the back for sporting director Michael Edwards.

Ings at Liverpool

Liverpool singed Danny Ings in 2015. Luck was not on Ings’ side as he suffered a major ligament injury in his first season. He was ruled out for the season. Ings continued to suffer in the following seasons too.

The striker never really managed to put his foot in at the club. He made 25 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 4 and assisting 1 goal. In 2019, Southampton signed him permanently following a loan spell.

Danny Ings has since shown his true potential.

What could this mean for Liverpool?

As mentioned above, the fee received could seem insignificant. However, it should assure Liverpool fans that the board will make sure to not be on the wrong side of any deal.
