Liverpool Team News: Jurgen Klopp drops hint over Van Dijk return

According to team news from Mirror, Jurgen Klopp has hinted when Virgil van Dijk will return to competitive action for Liverpool. The Dutchman recently returned to the side after a lengthy injury layoff. He could actually be starting the season for Liverpool right in their opening game against Norwich.

It was a testing season for Liverpool last time around. They were hit hard early on with a long-term injury to Van Dijk. A ligament injury meant that he was pretty much ruled out for the entire season. He even decided not to play in Euros for the Netherlands to help recuperate fully from the injury.

Liverpool are currently going through their preseason. They managed to win their first game against Mainz but lost the second one to Hertha Berlin. Although, they did win their next two games against Bologna. There are still two more games to play over the week before they take on Norwich in the opening game.

Nonetheless, Van Dijk was handed a chance to play against Bologna and played through 43 minutes of the game without a hassle. He featured alongside his regular partners, Joel Matip and Andy Robertson. All those names are expected to start on the opening weekend of the Premier League when Liverpool are scheduled to visit Norwich.

It will be a testing game for Van Dijk given he has not played in a competitive game since last October. Premier League games are a whole different deal when compared to friendlies. Nonetheless, the towering Dutchman looks ready to take on the challenge and Liverpool will be hoping for a showing on his return.
