Report: Klopp ready to hand 18-year-old Liverpool starlet first-team opportunities this term

Harvey Elliott could feature for the Liverpool first-team this season

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool are ready to hand Harvey Elliott with a bigger role this season after an impressive pre-season.

The 18-year-old, who is being considered for his very first U-21 England call-up, has featured in three out of Liverpool’s four pre-season games this campaign, and Jurgen Klopp has been impressed with the player’s performances.

The teenager broke the record of being the youngest player

(16 years and 30 days) ever to feature in the Premier League in 2019 when he came on for Fulham in a game against Wolves.

The Englishman was on loan at Blackburn Rovers last season and featured heavily for them as he amassed 41 appearances for the Championship side. Elliot was also a goal-threat for the club as he scored 7 goals and provided a further 11 assists.

The 18-year-old returned to Liverpool at the end of his loan move and the Reds are not keen on letting him leave this summer, with Klopp ready to hand the player with a bigger role. Klopp talked about how he experimented with Elliot in pre-season and it could be ‘exciting’ if the youngster remains fit over the course of the season. He said

:

“He made a big step this pre-season. If Harvey stays fit then the football world can be really excited. In pre-season, we wanted to see him in a deeper role because as a young player you have to learn a lot of things.

“When you are a bit more outside (on the pitch) you get the ball from time to time and we wanted him to be a bit more involved. I liked his performance during pre-season. Good for us and good for him.’

The Liverpool starlet could rack up plenty of minutes this season and if he does perform well, there is no saying how far he could go for the Reds. However, it remains to be seen how often Klopp will play him.
