Curtis Jones to miss Liverpool season opener against Norwich City after injury

According to Liverpoolfc.com, Liverpool youngster Curtis Jones is set to miss out on the club’s first Premier League game of the season against Norwich in the coming weekend.

The 20-year-old, who has featured in 3 out of Liverpool’s 4 pre-season games this season, suffered a concussion during the game against CA Osasuna on Monday. The midfielder had to be substituted after a collision with one of Osasuna’s defenders.

Jurgen Klopp has, however, provided an update on the youngster’s injury while also stating that the player will be unavailable for the club’s first Premier League game of the campaign against Norwich on Saturday. He told Liverpoollfc.com:

“He had a slight concussion so we just have to follow the protocol.

“He is fine, he feels fine again, but that’s the protocol. He is available for training from Sunday on I think.”

The 20-year-old will thus be available from Sunday, which in turn, could mean that the player might be available for selection next week when Liverpool host Burnley at Anfield.

Jones broke into the Liverpool squad in the 2019/20 season when he made 6 Premier League appearances while he also featured for the Reds in the FA Cup and EFL Cup.

However, Jones took huge strides last season as he made 34 appearances in all competitions, scoring 4 goals and 5 assists in the same period. The midfielder might feature more this season after the departure of Gini Wijnaldum, with the Dutchman leaving the Reds for PSG this summer.

Liverpool, on the other hand, will be ready for the game against Norwich this weekend, and given that Klopp has most of his squad available for selection, it would be interesting to see the team the German selects on Saturday.
