Xherdan Shaqiri is pushing for a move to Lyon this summer as he eyes Liverpool exit

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool star Xherdan Shaqiri is pushing for a move to Lyon this summer after agreeing personal terms with the French side.

Shaqiri, who has been eyeing a move away from Liverpool this summer, is keen on joining Lyon this summer. However, the French side are yet to meet Liverpool’s valuation of the player.

Fabrizio Romano’s tweet read

“Xherdan Shaqiri has completed his agreement on personal terms with OL. Contract now ready until June 2024 – Shaqiri’s now pushing to join Ligue1 side, as @lequipe reporter. #LFC

OL are offering €6m with add-ons, Liverpool want more. No agreement yet. Talks ongoing.”

Thus, while Xherdan Shaqiri is angling a move for the Ligue 1 side, there is still no agreement between them and Liverpool. The Reds are holding out for at least £12.7million for the Swiss international after the player made it clear that he wants to leave the club this summer.

Shaqiri, who joined the Reds in 2018 for just £13million, has struggled for game-time at the club. The Swiss has made 63 appearances since his arrival and has scored only 8 goals in that period. However, he was one of Switzerland’s main stars at the Euros this year as he helped his country reach the quarter-final of the competition.

The 29-year-old is angling for more game-time this season, something Jurgen Klopp cannot guarantee. The Reds already have the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota, and Divock Origi in their ranks, courtesy of which, it would be hard to provide the Swiss with consistent game-time.

Thus, only time will tell whether Liverpool reach an agreement with Lyon for the sale of Xherdan Shaqiri this summer.
