Burnley hand a surprising boost to Liverpool and Xherdan Shaqiri
The Liverpool Echo has reported that Burnley could help Liverpool to get Xherdan Shaqiri off their books. The Clarets are not directly interested in the player. However, their interest in Maxwel Cornet from Lyon could help Liverpool.
Lyon have been determined to land the Swiss international. However, have been some way away from the Reds’ valuation. Liverpool are looking to recover the £12m figure they paid to buy Shaqiri.
The report hints that Burnley buying Maxwel Cornet could prompt Lyon to meet Liverpool’s valuation. The French side have given Cornet the permission to speak to the Clarets.
How benefitical is this for Liverpool
For starters, it could help the club to get a fringe player off the books. Shaqiri has not seen much first-team action in recent seasons. The player had an impressive UEFA Euro 2020. The 29-year-old suggested that he still has the ability to play top level football.
Furthermore, it also could help the club make some more additions. So far, the Reds have only signed Ibrahima Konate. Jurgen Klopp has recently hinted that the club will continue the self-sustainable approach in the transfer market.
Speaking to the media ahead of their Premier League opener Klopp insisted that the club might need to sell someone before signing someone new.
