Transfer News: Liverpool ready bid for Man United target Ismaila Sarr

According to TransferMarketWeb (h/t Express), Watford forward, Ismaila Sarr, has told his club that he wants to leave this summer amid links with Liverpool and Manchester United.

The Reds want to strengthen their squad during this window and Jurgen Klopp has already taken a look at West Ham United winger, Jarrod Bowen. But his side have now received a big boost in their pursuit of Sarr.

The report mentions that the Senegal international, who is teammates with Sadio Mane for the African country, wants to leave the Premier League new-boys. And the Reds are preparing a £40million bid for him.

The 23-year-old is also on Manchester United’s radar but the Reds have seemingly taken the lead in their bid to land the former Rennes winger. One problem that any potential deal for Sarr wouldn’t solve is that of AFCON.

Sarr to LFC?

The African Cup of Nations, which will be held at the start of 2022, would see Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane join their respective countries for a few weeks. The club can use quality forwards during that time to make up for their absence.

But Sarr, like Mane, is also a regular for Les Lions de la Teranga. Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino can step in during that time, but the absence of either Salah or Mane would still be felt.

Nevertheless, at 23, Sarr has a long way to go before he reaches his peak. Under the watchful eye of Klopp, the winger can become an even better player and a potential long-term successor for either one of Liverpool’s wingers.

However, Liverpool’s pursuit for Sarr could hinge on the futures of Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri, with the latter linked to Olympique Lyon.
