Transfer News: Liverpool receive blow in chase for Renato Sanches

According to transfer news from Mirror, Liverpool have received a blow in their pursuit of Renato Sanches. The Lille midfielder is set to be ruled out for the next six weeks with an injury and that could see Liverpool snubbing a move for him.

Liverpool have been one of the quieter sides in the transfer market. Early in the summer, they wrapped up the signing of Ibrahima Konate and since then there have been no new names coming in. It’s not without reason though. The Reds showed against Norwich they have a capable side already and further additions might not be absolutely necessary.

However, the one position Liverpool were keen on adding to is central midfield. Or to be exact, a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum. The Dutchman recently left for PSG and Liverpool had earmarked the £36m-rated Renato Sanches of Lille to take his place.

As luck would have it, a meniscal lesion in his right knee meant that Sanches had to have surgery. The surgery has now ruled him out for the next six weeks at least. That means with just two weeks left in the window, the time off has discouraged any suitors including Liverpool from going after him this summer (h/t Mirror).

Sanches will still be a target for Liverpool nonetheless and a move in the future might be on the cards. The 23-year-old is a talented midfielder who has resurrected his career at Lille after disappointing runs at Bayern Munich and Swansea. He impressed with Portugal in the Euros as well and one can see why he is liked by Liverpool.
