Journo claims PL clubs are ‘ready to make’ move for Divock Origi on deadline day

Transfer News: Premier League clubs show interest in Liverpool ace Divock Origi

According to transfer news from Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports (h/t Liverpool Echo), a few Premier League clubs are ready to ‘make a move’ for Liverpool striker, Divock Origi.

The Belgian forward wrote his name into the club’s folklore in 2019 when he scored the 2nd goal in Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League win over Tottenham Hotspur. But he has failed to impress since then.

Despite Roberto Firmino’s poor goal-scoring form last season, Origi was rarely given a league start. Jurgen Klopp evidently did not trust the former Lille man to lead the line for his club.

Divock Origi is the subject of transfer interest from several clubs.

And now, he could be on his way out on deadline day. The Reds, according to Sheth, could prefer selling him permanently rather than loaning him out.

Origi to leave?

“I’m told tonight there could be a few Premier League clubs ready to make a move for Origi on deadline day. But we’re also told Liverpool will not be loaning him, they will only entertain permanent offers.”

The 26-year-old is still at an age where he can offer a number of years of service to any club he plays for. For him, game-time would be hard to come by at Liverpool despite the club’s shortage up front.

Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota are both ahead of him in the pecking order and Mohamed Salah has also played as a number 9 on many occasions. It seems like the best move for all parties would be for him to depart Anfield this summer.

The transfer, conducted soon after Origi’s performances in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, has clearly failed to work out in the long run. The best-case scenario for Liverpool would be to offload him and sign a proven attacker in his position.
