Roberto Firmino close to signing new contract at Liverpool
In a significant piece of positive news for Liverpool, our #9 Roberto Firmino is apparently closer than ever to signing a new deal with the Merseysiders. The 31-year-old has been a part of Liverpool’s core since he joined the club back in 2015, from TSG Hoffenheim.
Bobby is Jurgen Klopp’s most used player at the club. In 349 appearances for the Reds across all competitions, he has scored 107 goals and has a further 78 assists to his name as well. The epitome of the Reds’ style of play, there could hardly be anyone in the present first team who has the technical ability of Firmino, and his understanding of Liverpool’s style of play.
Given how his contract ends in June later this year (Transfermarkt), it is natural for other clubs to have an interest in the player. However, according to FCInterNews (h/t Liverpool Echo), the player is extremely close to signing a new contract with the Reds and hence, the trio of Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and mainly Inter Milan miss out on getting him on board.
Even though there weren’t any doubts as such, Firmino’s extension was taking its own course and isn’t even official yet. All in good time though. The Brazilian forward has been an integral part of the team’s success in recent years, and his commitment to the club will bring much-needed stability and continuity.
Firmino to sign a new deal with the Reds soon.
His unique style of play, which combines technical ability, work rate, and tactical intelligence, has been instrumental in Liverpool’s recent achievements, including our Premier League and Champions League triumphs.
Firmino signing an extension at this time also has an outside effect on the club apart from how he could directly influence the club. During this phase of transition, having an influencing figure like Bobby around the younger players will help ease the transformation process over time.
To conclude, Firmino signing a new contract is hugely beneficial. The Brazilian forward has been an essential player for the club in recent years, and his new deal will provide much-needed stability and continuity in the team.
