Liverpool are set to make a bid for highly rated Barcelona midfielder Pedri next summer

According to Express, Liverpool are weighing up a record-breaking transfer bid for Barcelona midfield star, Pedri. The young Spanish midfielder has been in stellar form for club and country and the Reds hope that they can persuade the Catalan club with an approximate €100million bid.

Pedri had a successful season for Barcelona. The 18-year old midfielder was a key figure in Ronald Koeman’s Barca team and appeared 37 times for them. Despite being his first major season for the La Liga giants, he managed to score 3 goals and helped out the team with his 3 assists in those 37 appearances in La Liga.

His performances saw him make the Spain squad for Euros 2020. La Roja had a stellar campaign in the competition, only being stopped in their tracks by the Champions Italy in a semi-final penalty shoot-out. Pedri was again a key member of the national team and established himself as the focal point of Spain’s game style in Euros 2020.

Pedri has a contract running up until 2022 and Barcelona are reportedly keen to tie the player for a long future at the club. The situation has, however, led Premier League clubs to keep a close eye on the player. Man City and Liverpool are linked with the player for a potential move in the summer of 2022.

Pedri, who is just 18-years old, played a total of 52 games for the club last season and was featured right back into the Barcelona squad after his return from the Tokyo Olympics. His talent and ability to perform consistently has earned him huge praise and, therefore, has attracted attention from European clubs.

Pedri has featured in major roles for the Spanish National team in Euros 2020 followed by Tokyo Olympics.

Spanish football expert Graham Hunter defines the player as a “generational talent”- via UEFA (h/t Express)

“This is a generational talent, not only bound for super-stardom but someone who’ll make anyone who loves football swoon and sigh with pleasure for years to come.”

Lack of transfer activity this summer may indicate Liverpool are indeed planning for something big next summer. However, it remains to be seen whether Barcelona ties their player on a long-term deal at the club or allows Premier League clubs to make a move for the talented midfielder next summer.
