Transfer News: Liverpool plotting a move to sign Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio in January
According to todofichajes.com (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are leading the race to sign Marco Asensio from Real Madrid. The report also suggests that the Premier League giants are willing to offer £30million for the Spanish international.
The Reds have been linked with Marco Asensio for quite some time now. Asensio has fallen down the pecking order at Real Madrid under the new manager, Carlo Ancelotti. The Spaniard has lost his place to Gareth Bale in the opening three fixtures in La Liga and was only used as a substitute in those games.
With the situation at Madrid, the young forward may not be happy with reduced gametime and can seek a move away to get his career back on track. However, Liverpool are not the only club after him and they could be rivalled by Arsenal and other European clubs, who are also keeping a close eye on the forward.
The 25-year old had a total of 48 appearances in all competition for Los Blancos last season, in which he scored 7 goals for the team. However, this is going to be unlikely this season as Bale is expected to star ahead of him under Ancelotti. At 25, Asensio would be looking for regular game time and opportunities to compete for titles. And that could be fulfilled if he made a move to Anfield.

Liverpool had a toned-down summer transfer window making Ibrahim Konate their only summer arrival. With fixtures coming thick and fast and lack of attacking reinforcements for the front three of Liverpool, a move for Asensio this January could hand a huge boost to Liverpool. The question is will Liverpool make a quick move for the Spaniard in January? Only time will tell.
