Transfer News: Liverpool considered signing Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford earlier this year
According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool did make a move for Leeds United Striker Patrick Bamford earlier this year. The English forward was doubted by many ahead of the start of last season but he has silenced his critics with his performances, which did garner attention towards him.
At Leeds last season under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa, the striker scored a total of 17 goals in the Premier League. Following his performance last campaign, the 27-year old striker went on to sign a new five-year contract extension which will keep him at Elland Road until 2026.
Despite Liverpool making the approach for him earlier this year, the striker chose to stay at Leeds as the player was not open to the idea of being a 5th preference at Anfield behind the likes of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane & Diogo Jota.
However, despite failing to sign Patrick Bamford, the Reds were unable to sign any major attacking player as well. The English striker has featured in all three opening games for Leeds United and has scored a single goal.
The 28-year-old star is expected to start in the weekend’s big fixture against the mighty Liverpool. The Reds are unbeaten in the Premier League this season and will travel to Elland Road for an exciting clash.
The Premier League giants, who are expecting a tough challenge at Elland Road, will be boosted by the news that Alisson and Fabinho will be available for the game against Leeds after the Brazilian FA backed out on their stance to not allow the Brazilian players to play for the next five days. However, the Reds will be without their star forward Roberto Firmino who is out injured.
