Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has urged the club to tie Mohamed Salah on a new contract

According to Sky Sports, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has stated the importance of getting Mohamed Salah on a new contract. Salah reached the milestone of scoring 100 Premier League goals this weekend against Leeds United. The Reds won the game comfortably by 3-0, thus continuing their unbeaten run.

Mohamed Salah has been in fine form for Liverpool ever since he signed for the club back in 2017 from AS Roma. The Egyptian winger recently achieved a milestone by scoring his 100th Premier League goal. It took him 162 League games to score the staggering figure. However, many of the Liverpool supporters and the former Liverpool player, Jamie Carragher are concerned as the player is yet to sign a new long term contract with the club.

The Liverpool talisman has a contract with the Reds up until June 2023, which means the player is in the last 2 years of the contract and the Premier League giants are yet to reach an agreement with the player on a new deal. Salah is believed to be asking for a massive £500,000 a week to extend his time at Anfield. And speaking on Monday Night Football (h/t Sky Sports), Carragher said:

“He is massively important and sometimes I feel sorry for Mo Salah because I think he goes under the radar in terms of Liverpool. When people talk about Liverpool winning the league, they always go back to Liverpool signing Alisson and Virgil van Dijk. Mo Salah came in 6 months before.”

The former Liverpool player also went on to state that despite the player’s demands for wages, he deserves a new deal and the club should meet the demands as he rightly should be one of the best-paid players in the league.

“Now, he [Salah] obviously wants a few quid. And rightly so. Good luck to him. He deserves it. He deserves to be one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League.”

Liverpool have not spent huge money this summer ensuring they kept hold of their key player by signing them on new contracts. So far they have tied Fabinho, Alisson Becker, Jordan Henderson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Roberston and Roberto Firmino on a long-term contract and the only key player remaining to sign an extension is Mo Salah.

With the Reds content in keeping hold of their key players, they would surely be hoping that Salah signs a new long-term deal with the club soon. The player has been instrumental in the club’s success over the last couple of years and it would not be a welcome sight if he leaves the club in the near future.
