Liverpool drawn away to Preston North End in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup

According to the Liverpool Echo, Premier League giants Liverpool will play against Preston North End in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

The Reds saw off Norwich City at Carrow Road thanks to a brace from Takumi Minamino sandwiching a Divock Origi header. They have now been handed a favourable draw against the Championship strugglers.

The next round of the domestic competition will be played on 25th October and Liverpool can be expected to once again rest their big guns. The fixture represents yet another opportunity for Jurgen Klopp to test out his youth plates and give fringe stars a runout.

Preston secured a victory over Cheltenham Town with a 4-1 scoreline at Deepdale in their third-round fixture. They could have bitten off more than what they can chew against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Reds are one of the most successful sides in the League Cup with eight wins in the competition. It is a record they share with defending champions Manchester City. Either side could take the record for their own should they win the trophy this season.

The Liverpool supporters who will be making the trip to Deepdale will be housed in the Bill Shankly Kop. The legendary Reds manager also played an important role in Preston North End and helped them win the FA Cup in 1938, their last major honour.

Liverpool’s win at Norwich was slightly married by the injury sustained by Naby Keita. Thankfully, it isn’t too serious. The Reds youngsters enjoyed a field day out and could be handed another opportunity at Deepdale.

The Reds are joint top of the Premier League and have also started their UEFA Champions League campaign with a bang. While the Carabao Cup is not among the club’s top priorities, it can serve as an excellent testing ground for the youngsters coming through.

Jurgen Klopp’s side would be expected to see off Preston and move onto the last eight. Liverpool last won the competition in 2012 under Kenny Dalglish. Incidentally, the League Cup final was also Klopp’s first major final as Liverpool manager.
